Putting success in students hands through dedication, education, communication, investigation, and collaboration @your library®
Franklin Middle School
Franklin, Texas
School Librarian, Leslie M. Shipkey
Elevator Speech:
Like most administrators and educators, I am concerned how the state curriculum standards are constantly changing. I have been a classroom teacher for many years, so I realize how much time and effort goes into planning, teaching, and grading. While most teachers aspire to involve technology resources with their lessons, they do not have adequate time to locate these resources, or they may not be aware of how to incorporate it with their current curriculum. As a school librarian, I provide teachers with resources and training of Web 2.0 tools that increase the interest of the students in the classroom. Collaborating with the school librarian to create lessons that involve technology allows students to receive lively, engaging lessons. In return, students attain 21st century skills that better prepare them for future careers and/or higher education. Not only do I collaborate with teachers, but I also promote students’ interest in reading by making the school library an inviting space that utilizes technological tools, supports literacy and encourages students to read voluntarily. By working collectively as an entire school community, we strive to achieve the same goal: To create readers with a lifelong love for literature and information.
