Elevator Speech Script:

Hello, School Administrators,

Do you want to increase student academic achievement in your school?  Well look no further than your school library. Your school library collection is filled with print and non-print materials that have been carefully selected by your school librarian to support your curriculum objectives as well as support state and national learning standards.

School librarians not only promote a passion for reading, but also want to encourage students to become life-long learners.   School librarians are instructional partners.  They are eager to work together with classroom teachers to co-plan, co-teach, assist students and assess student work. Your school librarian is also your campus’s technology and media specialist.  School librarians lead professional development trainings for teachers on how to use new Web 2.0 tools and resources in the library.  In addition, school librarians can partner with teachers to incorporate these tools into lessons and other projects. School librarians are tech savvy users who want to teach Digital Natives how to use Web 2.0 tools to enhance and synthesize their learning. School librarians are in a unique position that allows them to collaborate with teachers from all subjects and grade levels.  This means that they can have a direct impact on student achievement throughout the school. Teachers and school librarians utilize their individual knowledge and skills to design engaging lessons and tailor instruction.  Their goal is to help students make meaningful connections with their learning. These instructional partnerships aim to increase student success. Research has shown that classroom library collaboration can improve student performance on assessments. School librarians are eager to share with administrators their collaborative effort and to show evidence of student achievements.

In sum, your school library is not only a place to access and retrieve materials, but it’s also an active learning center.  Your school library is your school’s learning center, and your school librarian is your instructional partner for student success.  Set an example of success for your school.  Clarkston City School District has a history for excellence.  Let’s continue the trend.  Take part in the collaborative partnership and explore all the possibilities.  Contact your school librarian to get started.
