Central Texas High School District: Building Futures School Board Homepage

Welcome Central Texas High School District School Board Members!

I am so happy to have your support for the CTHSD library and all it has to offer!  I hope you will take a look around and be wowed!  Please take a moment to view the following speech and then check out the amazing slideshow at the bottom of the page - be sure you have your speakers turned on!  After you have perused this page, mosey over to the Research & Readings page to see why school libraries and certified school librarians are so important.  On the third page, I have listed several ways we are building futures here in CTHSD, complete with lesson plans, videos, and Web 2.0 tools.  Lastly, be sure to share this information not only with the rest of the school board, but also parents, community members, and far-away friends.  I appreciate your time and am so glad you came!

Keep Us Building,

Landon Britten

Head Librarian

Elevator Speech Transcript

Good morning, Ms. White.  I am so grateful to the school board for purchasing all the new iPads for the library.  I know it has been a stressful year after receiving the reading scores for the STAAR test that were less than the desired results.  Every student can become effective users of information if the right steps are taken between the librarian and classroom teachers.  We can continue to use research-based strategies to increase the instructional level of our lessons.  Through careful collaboration and meaningful partnerships among the stakeholders, we can increase our scores and better prepare our students for the 21st century.  This generous technology donation will help facilitate this goal.  I believe that students will love using the iPads to download e-books and conduct research.  I want to be a collaborative partner with teachers to help increase students' technology and literacy skills by developing tutorials on how to download e-books and access databases and Internet searching.  By working together with teachers, we can open doors for all students to utilize different tools for both keeping them engaged and increasing their reading scores.  I would love for you to come observe a lesson I am co-teaching with Mrs. Leisnek next week using the library webpage to demonstrate to students everything the library has to offer.
